Jace is a French graffiti artist born in Le Havre in 1973, who has been working in the streets since 1989.
He lives and works in La Réunion. In 1992, Jace created an iconic and mischievous character that he named « Gouzou. »
This marked the beginning of a long adventure, as Gouzous are now internationally known for having traveled to more than forty countries and territories. With his character’s simple graphic style, their creator is committed to conveying straightforward and effective messages, whether they are societal, political, or environmental. His scope is not only universal but also inherently humorous – and always original. Jace takes pride in imagining different situations depending on his inspiration or the context. Each outdoor mural or gallery work is unique, which sets him apart. Jace’s creative spontaneity undoubtedly explains why there are thousands of Gouzou collectors.
The cartoonish hero has become both the emblem of unencumbered thinking and the spokesperson for engaged humor, all under the guise of apparent lightness. A product of alchemy that mixes image, emotion, and intellect, the yellow dwarf with Creole DNA delights in satirizing, on-site, the excesses of humans within their environment (including fauna and flora), all with a certain tenderness. While Jace admits to his « care bear » side, he ironically plays with the multiple facets of human relationships.
