Tilt (1973) is an international figure in the graffiti world, hailing from Toulouse. Self-proclaimed a « graffiti fetishist, » he developed his practice in the streets and on trains.
His first tags on skateboard ramps date back to 1988, and since then, his work has evolved and bears the influence of his numerous travels. His stays have allowed him to exhibit and leave his mark on countries such as the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Thailand, Canada, China, New Zealand, Australia, as well as many cities in Europe.
Tilt aims to demonstrate through his practice that the initial form of graffiti can have as strong and complex an impact as 3D lettering and wild-style characters. His unique formal vocabulary and vibrant, pure colors convey an allusion to a primitive approach, reflecting his background as an artist from the « urban art » scene, marked by a wild practice in the streets. Similarly, his extensive use of bubbles and curved shapes relates to his obsession with the female body.
Following the principles and codes of graffiti, writing his name in an identifiable stylistic typography is the main focus of his work. Characterized by highly simplified volumetric letters created in a « Bubble » style, he creates « Throw-ups, » names written in a few minutes with spray paint using two colors.
