Christian Guémy (1973 Bondy), armed with his can and spray, breathes new aesthetic life into gray and dirty walls.
He dresses them up with colorful portraits, created using stencils or freehand. His models? Often his daughter, Nina, and many anonymous individuals who populate the neighborhoods. A French street artist based in Vitry-sur-Seine, Christian Guémy, also known as C215, has been active since 2006 in the ugliest parts of the city. « Where I paint, it reeks of piss, » he says bluntly, explaining that the street art movement was born in the suburbs of New York as « a desperate attempt by people to take possession of the built environment. » In industrial areas where concrete has hitherto left no room for emotion.
