alexöne (france)

Just as his name, the last three letters of which betray his past as a graffiti artist, Alëxone’s work (1976) bears the indelible mark of graffiti.

He gained recognition in the early 90s with his « oediperies, » which he created in the streets and elsewhere, blending graffiti, sleek calligraphy, and elaborate in situ installations. Even though it seems he’s moved away from it today, you can still find the traces of the streets in his work. The streets taught him what you don’t learn in art school, and his work is all the richer for it.

Over the years, Alëxone has developed a highly colorful, phantasmagorical universe populated by animals and strange characters, which he pushes to extreme deformity. His work is meticulous and detailed, the result of regular and sustained effort. Alëxone Dizac paints acts of bravery. Between wordplay and wit, amid the tumult of joyful fictions and the whirlwind of colors, unfolds the spectacle of a fusion society of animals, voicing the vox populi with a mischievous and demonstrative flair. While one quickly grasps the accumulation of multiple references including graffiti, Byzantine art, and comics, behind this Fantasia lies the depth of a specific balance—a labyrinthine fabric on a playful rhetorical backdrop.

A true bibliophile, the Parisian artist finely weaves a soft cotton. But the vitality of his painting could be a guarantor of the vitality of the world. Vivid colors, comical scenes, and variegated characters evoke laughter and amusement. The artist delights in incorporating references, multiplying winks, wordplay, and associating unusual ideas, thereby creating a genuine closeness between himself and the viewer who captures the meaning.
